happy birthday aMERCYca

Mercy celebrated her first birthday ever on July 4th when she turned 9 years old!

When we had to choose her birthday, the only logical day for this child was Independence Day!
She requested a skinny girl baby for her birthday--- I figured that she was talking about Barbie.

I made her a strawberry Princess Barbie cake!  She loved her!
She looks just like her, don't you think?

Levi tried to blow out some candles, too!

Sweet friends Jenna, Hana and Sara

Izzy and Beth

Beth and Ally
18 kids between these two mamas!!

Love birds Jamo and Abby

Chris, Jon and Jimmy
Three of my favorite fathers to the fatherless--
16 orphans rescued between these daddies!!

My Isaiah-- this boy kills me!!  He is the one who watches every bite I put into my mouth to make sure I'm eating enough, he's always there to carry the groceries and open doors for me.  He is the "anything I can do for you, Mom?" child.  He remembers every word I have ever spoken to him-- in detail---
We have come SO far!!!

Princess Barbie Mercy-- Praising the LORD!!!

Levi working hard on his sugar HIGH!

Yaya and Baby Sydney, Levi and Gigi watching the big fireworks show!

And of course they were all for sweet Mercy----- she asked if her birthday would be July 4th again next year---- revealing a still uncertain feeling about whether or not this is all going to last.

When I put her to bed that night she was all smiles as she watched her balloons floating above her, and said again that she'd never had a birthday before.
There are orphans all over the world who have no idea how old they really are.  Can you imagine just passing time and knowing you were growing older, but not ever being sure by how much?......having no record of your existence?.....
This is the child who is constantly aware of the ones who are still without a family.

Daddy's 9 year old princess!

Our Mercy has become the prayer warrior of the family.  She has the gift of compassion and is wise and intuitive far beyond her years.  Her heart is beautiful!
We love you, our precious princess Mercy Makeda!!!

So beautiful! I love the "Fathers to the fatherless" picture. No ordinary Dads ... but 16, did you say, children's heroes is the reality!
Such a beautiful day. Thank you for sharing!

Thanks for the advice on the cooking. do you do any certain same meals or buy organic? I am trying to just get down a meal plan and save money that way. We are also contemplating on 2 kids instead of one but we have 4 under 6 already. We just know we will want to start another adoption after we bring home the first one. Any thoughts on this. I am just nervous about how hard it will be to bond with both of them and your bio. kids too. You can email me at funk50@charter.net instead of going to my blog if you like. Thanks for your help.

What a fantastic birthday! I really loved the cake- I never knew there was a full Barbie underneath! :) Just found your blog - I thoroughly enjoy it and look forward to following your life. I lived in Africa for years myself (Sierra Leone West Africa) and have a big heart for the whole place. Great pictures too - what a gorgeous family you have - such blessings!
