It's WRONG to Sell People

On the way home our with 2 of my kid's, they noticed a homemade sign at an intersection that we pass through a few times a day.
It said

KID'S SALE

"What's that????"

The conversation went like this--

Me:  It is a consignment sale for children's clothes.

Do they sell kids?

Me:  No of course not!

They sell kids in Africa.

Me: I know, baby, I'm so sorry.

They sell people, too in Africa.

Me:  I know. We don't do that in America.

It's WRONG Mom!!  It's WRONG to sell people!!!

Me:  Yes it is.  I'm so sorry, sweetie.

Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think that this was a conversation that I'd be having with my children.
It is true.  It is illegal to sell kids in America.  It's illegal to sell them in Africa, too.

However--
Slavery has touched virtually everything we touch--- EVERY DAY.
The clothes we wear.
The electronics we use.
The diamonds on our fingers.
The food we eat.

PLEASE help do something about it!
Sign this petition to President Obama at
to help end modern day slavery.

Do not withhold good from those who deserve it, when it is in your power to act.

Tracy, My heart hurts for their hearts and what they have endured. But I really feel that they will be catalysts for change in our world. Love you all!

Wow. And I say that word slowly and deliberately because the wind has been knocked out of me just reading this. I mean, I "know" this is happens but to really KNOW it by seeing the hurt through children who have seen it and lived through things first hand absolutely undoes me. You can bet I will be signing this and with my signature will go action. Is there more we can do? Please let us know. I am there. For your children and those waiting.
Love from Portland,
Rory

I adore the hearts of children. They have such a clear understanding of equality and such a pure example of Christ's love to a hurting world. What world changers you are helping to mold.

so sad that a conversation like that even has to exist. :( I just wanted to add that it's not publicized well at all, but unfortunately women and children are sold in America. Atlanta is one of the #1 places for child trafficking. Isn't that so sad? In our own backyard. Signing the petition now - thank you for posting!

What a heartbreaking conversation! It's hard to believe in this day and age that slavery still touches so many people. Your kiddos are so brave and I can see them standing against the injustice in years to come.
